I was first introduced to photography when I was a senior in high school. For this class I used my sister's Pentax K1000 with the standard 50mm lens. It was a very easy camera to use and I still have it today. I really enjoyed the class and the experience. The class taught us basic dark room techniques in addition to the essentials of photography. The Black & White gallery has several images taken with this camera.
My first digital camera was a P&S Kodak DX 3600. It was a very simple camera, but it took decent pictures. I just used this camera for taking general pictures however I did take it with me to Arches National Park in Utah. The pictures I got with the camera were surprisingly good. After I started becoming more involved with photography, I began to realize the limitations of my camera.
I upgraded to a Digital Rebel (now nothing to write home about), but it is versatile. Once I made this purchase, my checkbook has never looked the same. It did not take me to long to realize I needed/wanted some more lenses and accessories. Recently I purchased a Canon 40D and it is a nice improvement from the Rebel. Thank you tax return.
When it comes to photography, many things interest me. I like sports photography, still lifes, landscapes, lighting effects, and black & white. However, I do not find myself very interested in portrait work. One summer, a friend of mine asked me to photograph her wedding. With the assistance of my wonderful wife, the results came out surprisingly well. I learned a lot during the experience, including the fact that I would never be interested in working as a wedding photographer.
I am continually working to improve my technique. Please feel free to email me at erik@erikungerphotography.com with any comments or critiques about my photography.
